Missions Department

Welcome to the Missions Department

The Missions Department is one of the six departments under the Spiritual Ministries Wing at the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) Head Office. Our primary purpose is to fulfill God’s ultimate mandate: proclaiming the Gospel across Ethiopia and beyond, winning souls for Jesus Christ, and planting vibrant local churches.

Our 9 Specialized Sections

To effectively fulfill the Great Commission, the Missions Department operates through nine strategic sections:

  • National Evangelists’ Coordination Section: Coordinating national evangelists serving across various regions.
  • Global Missionaries’ Coordination Section: Sending and supporting cross-cultural missionaries internationally.
  • Gospel for Other Religions Section: Sharing Christ’s love with people of diverse religious backgrounds.
  • Bible Translation Section: Translating Scriptures to reach unreached language groups.
  • Media Evangelism and Church Planting Section: Utilizing media technologies to spread the Gospel and initiate new church plants.
  • Hub School Section: Running mobile mission schools to equip local church planters.
  • Gospel Association Section: Fostering collaborative evangelistic associations.
  • Church Building and Related Ministries Section: Supporting physical infrastructure for new and growing congregations.
  • Firm Foundation in Christ Ministries Section: Grounding new believers in foundational Christian truths.

Our Strategy: Local and Global Wings

Our mission work operates through two main strategic wings:

  1. Global Missions Wing: Mobilizes and trains local churches for global outreach, commissioning and sending missionaries across borders. Currently, 17 missionary couples serve in 11 countries.
  2. Local Missions Wing: Oversees national evangelism, church planting, Training Centers for Church Planters (TCCP), media outreach, and mobile hub schools. Over 1,094 national missionaries have been deployed to serve among unreached people groups across Ethiopia.

All local and global missions are sacrificially funded and supported by local church congregations.

Our Scope and Kingdom Impact

From facing severe persecution and property confiscation during the former socialist regime to witnessing extraordinary growth today, God has sustained EKHC as a major mainline church in Ethiopia:

  • Over 9 Million Members and ~10,000 Local Churches structured under 11 Zonal (Ketena) administrations and 105 fellowships.
  • 1,100+ Global Missionaries alongside thousands of local church ministers.
  • 9 Special Centers, 9 Theological Colleges, 145 Bible Schools, and thousands of academic institutions serving the nation.
  • Holistic Compassion Ministries: Caring for widows, orphans, the elderly, and vulnerable community members in stewardship and Christian love.

Centennial Vision

As EKHC approaches its 100th anniversary (centennial), the church’s five-year strategic plan aims to double the number of local churches and believers. The Missions Department stands at the forefront of reaching this historic vision through prayer, strategic church planting, and passionate evangelism.
